Proof of sufficient funds (tuition + living expenses)
No criminal record
Good health (medical exam may be required)
Demonstrated intent to leave Canada after studies
Biometrics (most applicants)

Language proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL or French equivalent)

Application Steps

Choose a DLI

Research Designated Learning Institutions in Canada. Only DLIs can accept international students. Confirm your program and apply for admission.

Receive Acceptance Letter

Get your official acceptance letter from the DLI. This is required for your study permit application.

Gather Financial Documents

Show you have enough money: first year tuition + CAD $10,000 for living expenses (or CAD $11,000 for Quebec).

Apply Online

Submit your study permit application through IRCC's portal. Include your DLI acceptance letter, financial proof, and other supporting documents.

Biometrics & Medical

Provide biometrics at a VAC. A medical exam may be required depending on your country of residence.

Receive Study Permit

If approved, you'll get a Letter of Introduction. The actual study permit is issued at the Canadian port of entry.

Arrive & Study

Present documents at CBSA when you arrive. Your study permit is issued at the border. You can start studying!
